Backhaus Limmat — Bakery & Pâtisserie
Stone-hearth sourdough, butter croissants and cakes made from scratch every single morning, a few steps from the water.
Our Story
I opened Backhaus Limmat with one idea: bread should taste like something again. No shortcuts, no additives, just flour, water, salt, and a lot of patience with the dough.
Eleven years on, the ovens still start before the sun does. Neighbours pop in for their morning loaf, office workers grab a croissant on the way to the tram, and on Saturdays whole families come by for warm Zopf and to pick up a cake they've ordered for the weekend.
Everything you see in the case was made here that morning — not trucked in, not frozen, not rushed.

Word On The Street
"I've bought my Tuesday loaf here for years. It's the first thing I do after dropping the kids off — still warm most mornings."
— Regina H., neighbour"Half my office stops here before we even get to our desks. The croissants disappear from the break room in minutes."
— Marco T., office worker"Ordered a birthday cake for my daughter with two days' notice — they still managed to fit us in and it was gorgeous."
